Community Sports Coaches

If you are keen on running more sessions for young people – but have struggled to find coaches at the right time of day – then this scheme could be the answer!

About the Scheme
The aim of the scheme is to place 3,000 full and part time paid coaches working at a local level.   The coaches can be employed across a range of schools, clubs and local authorities based on identified local need to ensure maximum numbers of young people benefit.

The key focus of work has been outlined as:

  • Coach young people, predominantly outside of curriculum time, to develop core movement and sport skills across a number of sports or with a sports specific focus
  • Coach at a local level with a focus on FUNdamentals/Learning to Train or equivalent.
  • Retain young people in sport by ensuring a high-quality, enjoyable, young person-centred experience and providing guidance on progression opportunities based on the young person’s interests.

The following clubs have benefitted from the scheme

Burton Canoe Club, Matlock Canoe Club, Holme Pierrepont Canoe, Nottingham Kayak Club, Chelmsford Canoe Club, Wey Kayak Club , Elmbridge Canoe Club Reading Canoe Club, Norwich Canoe Club and Addlestone Canoe Club.

If you would like more information about the scheme in your county you can contact your local Paddlesport Development Officer for more details.
